2019-2022 technical artist

🐠DIGITALFISH

I was employed by R&D company DigitalFish from October 2019 through December 2022, where most of my work was as a contingent worker at Meta. Outside of my contract with Meta, I was able to build a VR testing product for Disney and support an unreleased DF-original AR project as a Unity 2D prototyper and animation colorist.

🏰DISNEY

At DF, I was one of two main tech artists who developed an internal testing product for Disney over the course of a couple months. Using Unreal Engine 5's Blueprints & UMG, I set up the video display, playback control, and wireframing and functionality of the UI. (My coworker was responsible for 3D modeling/UV's, camera controls, and polishing the UI to a mirror finish⭐) The final result is a VR theater environment that allows users to switch between three different viewing experiences, each with different videos mapping to them. The main challenge of this project was syncing playback of all videos, allowing for users to pause, play, rewind, fast-forward, and jump chapters within each of the experiences without causing one of the video feeds to lag or stay frozen. Implementing the stereoscopic 3D video effect for the Marvel intro was the most exciting part of the project, since viewing 3D video in a VR headset is really cool.

♾️META

I was a contingent worker on the Creative Engineering Team at Meta's Reality Labs from October 2019-June 2022. I worked onsite and remotely, and spent most of my time there working on experiences for Meta's now-retired Portal product, with contributions to AR Instagram projects and explorations on the Quest 2 VR device. I worked predominantly in Spark AR Studio for 3 years (I got really good with JavaScript), which involved:

  • Creating AR effects to publish to Messenger (making art, code, and interaction design contributions)
  • Building templates for specific types of effects in order to streamline effect creation for 3rd party studios
  • Coding contained, experimental prototypes to test new Spark AR capabilities and their potential use cases (including a prototype for uses of voice control software in the Quest 2 headset, and a “shared calling” effect that allowed multiple callers to play the same AR game)
  • Collaborating with QA to maintain and debug effects for the Meta Portal as regular software updates broke them in new and bizarre ways

  • Adapting shared (multi-user) Portal effects to be implemented as single-user Instagram masks
  • Compiling and organizing resource and onboarding documentation for the Creative Eng Team so that information was standardized and accessible
  • Creating mockups and visualisations to be used in pitches for effect ideas and the new capabilities they'd require (an example is shown in the gif next to the DigitalFish section above)

2018-2019 marketing coordinator

🌳FAMILY GIVING TREE

As the marketing coordinator for an established Bay Area nonprofit, I drafted emails, designed PowerPoint presentations, and occasionally supported warehouse work. I was responsible for brainstorming, writing, collecting, and editing articles and images for the FGT blog, as well as creating the text and visuals for the nonprofit's social posts. I used Photoshop and Canva for image generation, Joomla CMS for email and blog creation, and Hootsuite, X, Instagram, and Facebook for social media management. I took on an additional role in documenting office place processes to standardize and streamline protocols for each position.

2014-2018 bachelor's degree

✌️UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA

🎮BA in Interactive Entertainment
💃Minor in Social Dance (Dance Anthropology)

During my time studying game design, I had the opportunity to serve as the Art Production Lead of two different long-term thesis projects. I grounded the artistic vision for the project, collaborated with teammates and heads from engineering and design, managed production schedules, organized and implemented assets, and gave stylistic feedback to artists. (I worked on a bunch of smaller projects as well, which can be seen on the games/interactive page of this website.) Some of my favorite classes from my time at USC include: Typography, African American Dance, Game Design Workshop (board games!), and Animation History.

As a student, I also took on jobs as a Resident Assistant for the LGBT+ community floor and as an Orientation Advisor and then Coordinator for 2 years of incoming students. As an RA, I supported over 80 students per year for 2 years, mediating conflict resolution, connecting students to campus resources, responding to community emergencies, and organizing monthly events to encourage healthy community building. As an OA, I was responsible for introducing and acclimating students to campus, and then stepped up in my second year to a higher level of leadership, offering coordination support to the Orientation Program itself. All of these support roles gave me a lot of experience with organizing teams of people from different backgrounds, highlighting the importance of clear communication, adaptability, and a coherent schedule.
